Hygiene Treatments

Dental hygienist sessions specialise in preventative oral care, with the focus on ensuring you keep your natural teeth for as long as possible. Your hygienist will focus on removing plaque and tarter present on your teeth which, if left can lead to gum disease, tooth decay and potentially tooth loss.

They will also be able to provide individually tailored oral hygiene plans to ensure that you have the right tools and techniques to care for your teeth in between visits.

Dental Hygiene Treatment

Hygiene treatment is performed by a Hygienist. They clean below the gumline, removing trapped food, plaque and tartar so our mouth feels fresh, deep cleaned and helps to maintain healthy gums.

Your hygienist will:

  • Carry out an initial dental hygiene examination

  • Carry out a thorough scaling of your teeth to remove any plaque or tartar build-up in those areas brushing cannot reach

  • Perform a clean and polish to remove any superficial stains on your teeth

  • Offer tailored advice on how to maintain good dental health and demonstrate techniques you can use at home

We like to think of Hygiene therapy like you would service your car, a deep clean to help prevent decay and disease.

Benefits of Hygiene Treatment

  • A healthy-looking mouth
  • Clean teeth
  • Pink gums that do not hurt or bleed while brushing or flossing
  • Fresh Breath

Good dental and oral hygiene can also improve the quality of your life by preserving speech and eating functions, as teeth will last longer and one can avoid the embarrassment of bad breath, missing or unsightly teeth.

How often should I have a hygienist cleaning?

For most people with healthy teeth and gums a visit every six months should be fine, but if there is evidence of gum disease, visits may be required every two to three months. Our dental hygienist can evaluate the condition of your gums and advise how often you should have a professional dental cleaning.
